Water Temperature: Daily Trends, Historical Records, and Forecast
❌ As of today, the minimum water temperature ranges from 47°F (8°C) to 50°F (10°C). This is still cool water, suitable only for experienced swimmers or those accustomed to cold water. Swimming in such conditions is possible, but not recommended for prolonged periods. Extra caution should be taken during extended exposure, as the cold water can cause heat loss and lead to hypothermia. For added comfort, special clothing can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Seminoe Reservoir, on the North Platte River in central Wyoming, is a high-elevation impoundment whose water temperatures are driven by snowmelt, inflows, and depth. In winter the reservoir commonly approaches freezing and can be ice-covered, around 32°F (0°C) or lower. Spring runoff keeps surface readings cool, roughly 35–55°F (2–13°C) through May and early June. Peak summer surface temperatures are modest compared with lower-elevation lakes, typically reaching about 60–70°F (15–21°C) on warm, calm afternoons, though deeper or shaded areas remain noticeably colder. By autumn the surface cools back into the 40–55°F range (4–13°C) as air temperatures drop and daylight shortens.
Swimming is generally permitted at Seminoe Reservoir as a recreational activity, but conditions and risks limit comfortable, safe swimming for many people. The cold water, even in summer, can quickly induce cold-shock or hypothermia. There are few formal swim facilities or lifeguards, significant boat traffic, rocky shorelines and sudden drop-offs in places, and the area is relatively remote, all of which mean swimmers should exercise caution. Most recreational use tends toward boating and shore-based activities, with brief swims by those prepared for chilly, open-water conditions during the warmest weeks.
