Water Temperature: Daily Trends, Historical Records, and Forecast
❌ As of today, the minimum water temperature ranges from 47°F (8°C) to 50°F (10°C). This is still cool water, suitable only for experienced swimmers or those accustomed to cold water. Swimming in such conditions is possible, but not recommended for prolonged periods. Extra caution should be taken during extended exposure, as the cold water can cause heat loss and lead to hypothermia. For added comfort, special clothing can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sálganjávri is a small lake in Finnmark County (Sálganjávri in Northern Sámi) and, like many lakes in northern Norway, its water temperatures are strongly influenced by latitude, elevation, depth and seasonal weather. In winter the lake surface typically approaches freezing and is often ice-covered, with temperatures around 0–2 °C (32–36 °F). During spring and early summer temperatures rise slowly, commonly ranging from 1–6 °C (34–43 °F) as snowmelt feeds the lake. In the warmest weeks of summer surface temperatures can reach roughly 6–15 °C (43–59 °F) in sheltered, shallow areas on warm years, while deeper or wind-exposed parts remain cooler. In autumn the water cools back toward 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) before freezing.
Swimming in Sálganjávri is generally possible and not formally prohibited under Norway’s public right of access (allemannsretten), but practical and safety considerations limit most recreational swimming to the brief summer period. Cold water presents hypothermia risks even when air temperatures are pleasant, and ice cover in winter makes bathing dangerous. Visitors should check local conditions, avoid solo swims in cold water, use appropriate protective clothing such as a wetsuit if necessary, and respect any local signs or private property restrictions.
