*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Nattvatnet in Finnmark County is a typical northern Norwegian lake with generally cold water most of the year. Surface temperatures depend on season and depth: during peak summer months shallow areas can rise to roughly 12–16 °C (54–61 °F), while typical summer surface temperatures more often fall between about 8–14 °C (46–57 °F). In spring and early summer, after ice melt, the water commonly sits around 0–8 °C (32–46 °F). Autumn sees a steady cooling toward 4–10 °C (39–50 °F) before the lake refreezes; under ice in winter the water temperature is close to 0–4 °C (32–39 °F). Deeper parts remain colder year-round, so temperatures vary locally.
Swimming in and around Nattvatnet is generally permitted because public access to nature is protected in Norway and there are usually no formal bans on bathing in lakes, but conditions make it a cold-water experience. Many people still swim in summer, often briefly or using wetsuits; winter swimming is practiced by some but carries significant risks unless supported by safety measures. Visitors should be aware of cold shock and hypothermia risks, lack of lifeguards, variable bottom conditions and possible ice hazards in shoulder seasons. Local signs or landowner notices should always be observed.
