** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lacu Roșu (Red Lake) in central Romania is a mountain dam lake formed by a historic landslide, sitting at nearly 1,000 meters elevation. Because of its altitude and forested surroundings, water temperatures remain cool year-round. In winter the surface often freezes and water just beneath the ice hovers near freezing, roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F). During spring temperatures typically rise slowly to about 4–10 °C (39–50 °F). In summer, when surface warming is greatest, daytime values can reach approximately 14–20 °C (57–68 °F) in calm, sunny periods, while autumn sees a steady decline back toward 8–14 °C (46–57 °F).
Swimming at Lacu Roșu is generally uncommon and not promoted. Although informal bathing may occur in the warmest weeks, authorities and local guides advise against regular swimming because the lake lies within a protected area, water remains relatively cold even in summer, and hazards such as submerged trees, steep or unstable banks, and sudden weather changes increase risk. Recreational activities tend to focus on walking, sightseeing and controlled boat rentals rather than extensive bathing. Visitors should check local rules and conditions before entering the water and be mindful of safety and conservation measures.
