*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Izvorul Muntelui, commonly called Lacul Bicaz, is a large artificial reservoir in North‑East Romania whose water temperatures reflect its mountain setting. In spring the surface typically ranges from about 4–15 °C (39–59 °F) as snowmelt and runoff cool the basin. In summer sheltered bays and shallow areas can warm to roughly 18–24 °C (64–75 °F), with occasional pockets reaching the mid‑20s °C (around 77 °F) on hot spells. Autumn brings cooling back toward roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F), while winter temperatures often approach freezing, roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), and parts of the lake can ice over.
Swimming is practicable and commonly done in the warmer months, especially in calmer coves and near holiday settlements, but it is not uniformly supervised and conditions vary. Access is limited or unsafe near the hydroelectric dam, intake structures and navigation channels, and the lake’s depth, sudden temperature changes and boat traffic increase risk. Local regulations and signage may restrict entry in specific zones, so swimmers are advised to choose sheltered spots, be aware of cold water shock and changing levels, and follow guidance from local authorities before entering the water.
