The Embalse de Puente Nuevo, like many inland reservoirs in Andalusia, shows pronounced seasonal variation in water temperature. Summer temperatures at the surface typically reach roughly 20–26 °C (68–79 °F) in warm years, with shallow bays sometimes slightly warmer; autumn brings a cooling trend, often 14–20 °C (57–68 °F). Local factors such as depth, incoming river temperature, recent rainfall and heatwaves or cold snaps can change these values from year to year and between sheltered inlets and open-water areas.

Swimming at the Embalse de Puente Nuevo is subject to restrictions and practical limitations. As a managed reservoir, parts of it are used for water supply and hydraulic infrastructure, and for safety, water-quality and conservation reasons authorities commonly prohibit bathing or limit access; signage and municipal regulations indicate the official stance.
