*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Orchard Lake in Michigan follows the typical seasonal cycle of inland lakes in southeast Michigan. During the winter months the surface temperature usually hovers around freezing, roughly 32°F (0°C) with ice cover common through December to March. In spring the water gradually warms, often ranging from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as snowmelt and runoff moderate temperatures. Peak summer surface temperatures in July and August commonly reach the upper 60s to upper 70s °F, roughly 20–26°C, and can briefly approach 80°F (27°C) during heat waves. By autumn the lake cools again, with temperatures typically dropping back into the 50s–60s °F (10–18°C) before ice forms.
Swimming is possible in Orchard Lake when access and conditions permit, primarily in the warmer months when surface temperatures are comfortable for recreation. Much of the shoreline is privately owned or associated with local clubs and institutions, so public swimming areas are limited; therefore swimming is generally allowed for property owners, guests, and in designated spots where permitted. As with any lake, people should observe posted advisories, watch for algae blooms or other water-quality notices, and be mindful of cold-water risk in spring and fall and of ice safety in winter.
