✅ As of today, the minimum water temperature is above 82°F (28°C). This is very warm water, which may feel almost hot to most people. Swimming in such conditions is perfect for those seeking relaxation and comfort in the water. These waters are often preferred for relaxation in hot weather, as the water temperature does not cool the body significantly. However, it is important to remember that in such warm waters, caution is necessary, as prolonged exposure without rest can lead to overheating. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. *** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Minatare, a reservoir on the North Platte River near Scottsbluff, experiences marked seasonal variation in surface water temperature. In winter the lake typically approaches near-freezing conditions, around 32–40°F (0–4°C). Spring brings a gradual rise, with surface temperatures commonly in the 45–60°F range (7–16°C) depending on late-season weather. During summer, shallow bays and protected areas warm most, often reaching 70–80°F (21–27°C) and occasionally climbing into the low 80s–mid 80s°F (28–30°C) on hot, calm days. In autumn the water cools through the 50s and 60s°F (10–20°C) as air temperatures fall and wind mixes the column, producing the late-season chill typical of Nebraska lakes.
Swimming at Lake Minatare is generally permitted during the warm months in areas managed for recreation, but it is usually unguarded and therefore at visitors’ own risk. The designation of swimable areas depends on local management and on short-term conditions such as water clarity, algae presence, or strong winds that create hazardous waves. Because of the lake’s shallow sections that heat quickly and deeper zones that remain cool, swimmers should be mindful of temperature contrasts, watch for posted advisories, and check with park staff for current safety and water-quality information before entering.
