*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Nepessing Lake, a small inland lake in Michigan, experiences typical northern temperate seasonal water temperatures. In spring (April–May) surface readings commonly run from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the lake thermally recovers from winter. Summer (June–August) brings the warmest conditions, with surface temperatures generally in the 68–80°F range (20–27°C), making shallow areas notably warmer on calm days. During fall (September–November) the water cools again to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) as overturn and cooling set in. In winter the lake is near freezing at the surface—around 32–39°F (0–4°C) where ice forms—so open-water swimming becomes uncommon and hazardous.
Swimming at Nepessing Lake is permitted where access and local rules allow, and many people swim there in summer because surface temperatures reach comfortable recreational levels and the lake is freshwater. However, availability of public access, shoreline ownership, water quality conditions, aquatic vegetation and sudden depth changes affect where and how safe swimming is. In spring and fall the water can be uncomfortably cold for prolonged swims, and in winter ice cover makes swimming unsafe except for specialized cold-water activities with proper precautions. Always observe posted signage, check local advisories, and use standard water-safety practices before entering the water.
