Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Miekojärvi, often dubbed the Pearl of the Arctic Circle, is the largest lake in western Finnish Lapland and is celebrated for its exceptionally clear waters and excellent recreational environment. Swimming is allowed along all public shores and designated bathing spots, secured by Finland's Everyman’s Rights, which grants public access to natural waters for recreation provided no harm is done to the environment or private property. Miekojärvi's clean, high-quality water, combined with sandy beaches in areas like Villenniemi, makes it a safe and popular choice for summer bathing.
The temperature profile of Miekojärvi is characterized by its sub-Arctic location. The lake is frozen for a long period, typically from November to May, with the water under the ice remaining at a near-freezing 0∘C to 4∘C. The season for comfortable swimming is very short, primarily in July. During this peak summer month, the surface water can reach a maximum temperature range of 16∘C to 20∘C, especially in shallow bays. Outside of this short window, the water is cool, mainly appealing to dedicated cold-water swimmers who often utilize the lake and surrounding waters for invigorating dips.
