*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Iso-Vietonen, situated in the Lapland region of Finland, is typical of the northern water bodies that provide ample opportunities for wilderness recreation. Swimming is permitted along all accessible non-private shoreline areas during the ice-free season, upheld by the national Everyman’s Rights. This traditional right allows public access to nature, including water bodies, for recreational use, provided the natural environment is respected and private residences are not disturbed. The lake’s waters are known for their high quality, offering a clean and safe, though predictably cold, swimming experience in the vast Lapland landscape.
The water temperature in Iso-Vietonen is defined by the Arctic climate, with a brief window of warmer water. The lake is generally ice-covered for much of the year, from around October to May, during which time the water beneath the thick ice mass maintains a frigid temperature between 0∘C and 4∘C. The short summer provides the only chance for casual swimming; in July, the surface temperature typically reaches a maximum range of 15∘C to 19∘C in shallower areas. Outside of this peak, the water remains too cool for comfortable recreational bathing, appealing mainly to dedicated ice or cold-water swimmers.
