** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Thompson’s surface water temperature varies widely through the year. In late winter and early spring the lake hovers near freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C), and ice cover is common during the coldest months. As spring advances temperatures typically climb into the 40s and 50s°F (4–15°C). By summer the surface often reaches the most comfortable ranges for swimming, commonly about 70–80°F (21–27°C), and on hot, calm days shallow areas can warm into the mid‑80s°F (around 29°C). In autumn the water cools again into the 50s–60s°F (10–16°C). Because parts of the lake are relatively shallow and winds can stir and mix the water, temperatures can change quickly with weather and sunlight, and surface readings may be several degrees warmer than deeper water.
Swimming at Lake Thompson is generally permitted where public access and beaches are provided, but conditions determine whether it is advisable. Warm summer temperatures often make swimming pleasant, yet fluctuating water levels, submerged hazards, limited lifeguard presence, and occasional water‑quality issues such as algal blooms can restrict safe swimming. In winter the lake is unsuitable for open‑water swimming due to cold and ice. Visitors should check local advisories, posted signs, and recent water‑quality reports before entering the water.
