Lake Sassano (Lago Sassano), situated in the Apulia region of southern Italy, is a small freshwater lake whose water temperatures change noticeably with the seasons. In winter the surface commonly drops to about 8–12 °C (46–54 °F), while spring brings a steady rise to roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). Peak summer temperatures often reach around 22–27 °C (72–81 °F) in shallower areas, making the surface pleasantly warm for swimming on hot days, and autumn sees cooling back to approximately 14–20 °C (57–68 °F). Local factors such as depth, wind, inflows and recent weather can cause short-term deviations from these averages. Compared with the nearby Adriatic and Ionian seas, the lake can warm more quickly in summer and cool faster in winter because of its smaller volume and more sheltered character.
