** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Okeechobee is a large, shallow lake whose surface temperature changes with the seasons and local weather. In winter months (December–February) surface temperatures commonly range from roughly 50–68°F (10–20°C). In spring (March–May) the water typically warms to about 65–80°F (18–27°C). Summer (June–August) brings the warmest readings, often 75–92°F (24–33°C) or higher during heat waves, and early fall (September–November) usually remains warm, around 70–85°F (21–29°C). Because the lake is shallow, temperatures can shift fairly quickly with air temperature and wind, producing noticeable day-to-day variation.
Swimming opportunities on Lake Okeechobee are limited and situational. While there are no universal prohibitions against entering the water in many areas, swimming is not widely promoted because of water-quality concerns, periodic harmful algal blooms, elevated bacterial counts, submerged hazards, and the presence of wildlife such as alligators. Much of the shoreline consists of dikes, marshes and boat ramps rather than sandy beaches or designated swim areas, so recreational use tends to focus on boating and fishing. If considering a swim, check local advisories, use designated public sites where available, and be mindful of water conditions and wildlife risks.
