*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Missaukee’s surface water follows the seasonal patterns typical of inland Michigan lakes. In spring the lake warms slowly, with surface temperatures often ranging from roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) as ice melts and runoff cools the shallows. By early summer temperatures commonly sit in the 60s°F (16–21°C), and in mid to late summer surface readings frequently reach the low to mid 70s°F, roughly 21–24°C, sometimes topping the mid-70s°F (around 24–25°C) on warm, calm days. Deeper water stays noticeably cooler year-round, and as autumn arrives the surface cools back through the 50s–60s°F (10–18°C) before winter brings temperatures close to freezing and ice cover.
Swimming is generally allowed and practiced during the ice-free months because warm surface temperatures make recreational swimming comfortable through much of summer. Public access points and private beaches provide places to enter the water, but conditions vary with weather, water clarity and occasional algal blooms; swimmers should heed posted advisories and use common-sense safety such as life jackets and avoiding swimming under ice. During winter, ice cover typically prevents swimming except for organized, supervised ice activities where local authorities declare it safe.
