** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Guernsey Reservoir, located in eastern Wyoming, experiences a wide range of water temperatures through the year because of its elevation and seasonal climate. In spring (April–May) surface temperatures commonly sit between about 35–55°F (2–13°C) as snowmelt and cool inflows moderate the water. Peak summer surface temperatures (June–August) typically warm to roughly 60–75°F (15–24°C) in shallower bays on warm years, though deeper water remains noticeably cooler. In early fall (September–October) temperatures usually fall into the 45–65°F (7–18°C) band as air temperatures drop, and in winter the reservoir can approach freezing, about 32–40°F (0–4°C), with ice possible in sustained cold spells. Local conditions, depth, and wind exposure produce significant variation across the reservoir.
Swimming is generally permitted at Guernsey Reservoir because the site is managed for multiple recreational uses including boating, fishing, and shore recreation; designated park areas typically accommodate swimming. That said, there are no routine lifeguards, and access can be limited or discouraged near the dam, boat ramps, and in high-traffic boating zones. Cold water, sudden depth changes, submerged hazards, and boat traffic create real safety risks—especially early and late season when temperatures are low—so swimmers should follow posted signs, use flotation as appropriate, and exercise caution.
