Lake Fanaco (Italian: Lago Fanaco) is an inland reservoir in Sicily whose surface water temperatures follow a Mediterranean inland pattern. In winter the surface typically cools to around 8–12 °C (46–54 °F). Spring brings progressive warming to roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) as air temperatures rise and solar heating increases. In summer the lake can reach its warmest values, commonly between 22–28 °C (72–82 °F) at the surface on hot days, while autumn sees a gradual decline to about 15–20 °C (59–68 °F). These ranges are seasonal averages; temperatures vary with depth, wind, and recent weather, and deeper water remains noticeably colder even in summer.
Swimming at Lake Fanaco is treated differently than bathing at a recreational seaside beach. Because it is a reservoir used for water management, irrigation and sometimes drinking supply, access and bathing can be regulated or discouraged for safety and water-quality reasons. Steep banks, submerged structures and variable currents pose safety hazards, and local ordinances or signage may prohibit swimming to protect the water resource.
