** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Arvo (Lago Arvo) sits on the Sila plateau in Calabria and behaves like a mountain reservoir in terms of temperature. In winter the surface often falls to around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) and can develop ice in colder spells. Spring temperatures typically rise into the 4–12 °C range (39–54 °F) as the snowmelt and cooler weather gradually warm the basin. Summer is when the water is warmest, with surface readings commonly between about 14–22 °C (57–72 °F) depending on weather and depth; late summer afternoons produce the highest values. In autumn the lake cools again, usually ranging from roughly 8–16 °C (46–61 °F) before the onset of winter.
Swimming in Lago Arvo is feasible during the warmer months, especially in sheltered bays where surface temperatures reach the mid-to-upper teens Celsius, but opportunities are limited by practical and regulatory factors. As a managed reservoir within a mountain park, parts of the shoreline are steep and there can be boat traffic, submerged hazards and variable currents, so local rules and signage sometimes restrict bathing for safety or water-management reasons. Even when permitted, the water remains cooler than lowland Mediterranean lakes and rivers, so swimmers should be prepared for brisk conditions and check local advisories before entering.
