Lac-Simon, located in the Outaouais region of western Quebec, is a popular recreational lake known for its clear water, sandy beaches, and forested surroundings. Because of its moderate depth and southern location within the province, the lake experiences a noticeable warming cycle through the spring and summer months. In early spring, following the ice melt in April, water temperatures remain cold, averaging around 39–45°F (4–7°C). By late May and June, surface temperatures rise steadily to about 54–63°F (12–17°C). During midsummer, from July through August, Lac-Simon reaches its warmest period, with surface temperatures typically between 68–75°F (20–24°C), especially in shallow areas near the beaches. By late September, the lake begins to cool again below 59°F (15°C) as autumn temperatures return.
Swimming in Lac-Simon is allowed and highly popular, making it one of the best-known freshwater swimming spots in western Quebec. The lake’s clear, mild water and soft sandy bottom create ideal conditions for families and recreational swimmers. During midsummer, the water becomes comfortably warm for extended swimming, kayaking, and other activities. The main beach area within Parc Lac-Simon is well maintained and supervised during the season, providing safe and accessible swimming opportunities from late June through early September, when the lake’s temperature and weather are most favorable.
