*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Hardy Dam Pond, a reservoir on the Muskegon River in western Michigan, exhibits marked seasonal changes in surface water temperature. In spring the water typically runs cold as it warms from winter, often in the 40–60°F range (4–16°C). By early summer surface temperatures commonly climb into the mid-60s to mid-70s °F (18–24°C), with the warmest weeks sometimes reaching 75–80°F (24–27°C) in shallow, sheltered bays. As autumn arrives the surface cools back into the 50s–60s °F (10–16°C), and in winter the pond approaches freezing with ice cover and temperatures near 32–39°F (0–4°C) in most areas.
Swimming is generally permitted at public access points and shorelines around Hardy Dam Pond, but there are important caveats. The reservoir is influenced by dam operations, boat traffic, sudden depth changes and submerged structure, so many areas are not lifeguarded and can be hazardous despite being open to recreation. Water quality and currents can vary, and access near the dam is often restricted for safety. Visitors should use designated launch sites or beaches where provided, obey posted signage, and take standard water-safety precautions before entering the water.
