** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Gunlock Reservoir, located in southwestern Utah, experiences a wide range of surface water temperatures through the year. In midsummer the top layer of water commonly warms to roughly 75–85°F (24–29°C), and on very hot afternoons can edge toward the upper 80s°F (~30°C). During spring and fall the surface is cooler, typically in the range of about 45–70°F (7–21°C) depending on recent air temperatures and inflow. In winter the reservoir often drops to near freezing or slightly above, with surface readings around 33–45°F (1–7°C), although ice cover is uncommon and temperatures vary with storms and water releases.
Swimming at Gunlock Reservoir is generally permitted as a recreational activity, but it is not a supervised beach and conditions can be changeable. Because the site is a working reservoir with variable water levels, boat traffic, submerged hazards and cold shoulder-season temperatures, swimmers should be cautious: cold water shock and hypothermia are real risks outside the warmest months, and there are typically no lifeguards on duty. Visitors should follow posted rules, be mindful of boats, and choose summer days for the most comfortable and safest swimming conditions.
