*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Flaming Gorge Reservoir sits at relatively high elevation, so its water stays cooler than lowland lakes. Seasonal surface temperatures typically run roughly 40–55°F (4–13°C) in spring, warm to about 55–75°F (13–24°C) in summer — with many open-water areas most often in the mid-60s to low 70s °F (15–22°C) on hot days — then drop back to roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) in fall. In winter the surface can fall to near freezing, about 32–40°F (0–4°C), and portions of the reservoir may ice over in colder years. Because Flaming Gorge is deep and fed by cold mountain inflows, even summer water can feel brisk below the surface.
Swimming is generally allowed at Flaming Gorge in public recreation areas and makes for a popular activity when weather warms, but it carries some hazards and limitations. Cold water temperatures, steep drop-offs, boat traffic, and limited lifeguard coverage mean swimmers should choose designated beaches or coves, wear flotation or wetsuits in cooler conditions, and stay well clear of marinas and boat channels. Local rules and seasonal access at campgrounds or day-use sites also influence where swimming is practical and safe.
