*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Engstlensee lies above the Engstlenalp at around 1,850 m, framed by open alpine meadows and rocky slopes. Its elevation keeps water temperatures cool throughout the year. In winter the lake is typically frozen, with water near 0 °C (32 °F). After ice-off in late spring or early summer, temperatures usually sit around 5–8 °C (41–46 °F). During the short summer, mainly July and August, the surface can warm to roughly 12–16 °C (54–61 °F) on sunny days, before cooling quickly again in early autumn to below 10 °C (50 °F).
Swimming is not officially prohibited, but it is uncommon and generally not recommended for casual bathing. Engstlensee is cold, exposed to mountain weather, and primarily managed as a fishing and natural landscape area. The low temperatures and sudden weather changes increase the risk of cold shock. While experienced cold-water swimmers may attempt a brief dip in midsummer, most visitors enjoy the lake for hiking, scenery, and angling rather than swimming.
