*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Devils Lake in Michigan follows the typical seasonal pattern of inland northern lakes, with surface temperatures that vary markedly through the year. In winter the lake commonly reaches freezing at the surface, around 32–40°F (0–4°C) where ice forms; the deepest waters stay a bit warmer near 39–40°F (4–4.5°C). Spring brings a steady rise, roughly 40–60°F (4–15°C) as ice melts and the water mixes. In summer the shallow bays and sunlit areas can warm to about 65–80°F (18–27°C), while deeper pockets often remain cooler in the mid-50s to low 60s°F (12–17°C). By fall the surface begins to cool again, typically settling in the 50–60°F (10–16°C) range before regular ice-up.
Swimming is generally possible at Devils Lake where public access or private permission exists and no health advisories are in effect; summer months offer the most comfortable conditions. Caution is important because colder or deeper water can cause shock or rapid heat loss, and early- or late-season swims are riskier due to low temperatures. Local water-quality issues such as cyanobacterial blooms, high bacterial counts after heavy rains, or safety-based closures can temporarily restrict swimming, so checking current advisories and respecting posted signs and property boundaries is advisable.
