** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Coralville Lake, a reservoir on the Iowa River near Coralville, experiences a wide range of surface-water temperatures through the year. In winter the surface often approaches freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C). Spring warms from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as air temperatures rise and runoff increases. Peak summer surface temperatures typically fall in the 68–82°F range (20–28°C), with the warmest late-July and August waters providing the most comfortable conditions for bathing. In autumn the lake cools back toward 50–65°F (10–18°C) as nights shorten and winds increase. These are general seasonal ranges; actual temperatures vary with depth, recent weather, and reservoir operations.
Swimming at Coralville Lake is permitted in many of the Corps-managed recreation areas and swim beaches, and people commonly swim there during warm months because summer water temperatures are generally comfortable. However, swimming is often unguarded and conditions can be hazardous outside of calm summer days: cold water shock in spring or fall, sudden drop-offs, boat traffic, submerged debris, and occasional water-quality advisories (including algal blooms) can make swimming unsafe. Visitors should heed posted rules and advisories and choose supervised or designated swim areas when available.
