*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Cedar Lake in Wisconsin typically follows the seasonal temperature pattern of midwestern glacial lakes. After ice-out in spring, surface temperatures often range from about 35–55°F (2–13°C) and gradually warm through May and June. By midsummer the surface commonly reaches roughly 70–80°F (21–27°C), with the warmest afternoons sometimes slightly higher in shallow bays. In early fall the surface cools back into the 50–65°F range (10–18°C) before dropping toward ice formation; under winter ice the water near the surface is close to 32°F (0°C) while deeper water remains near 39°F (4°C), the temperature of maximum density for freshwater. These values vary with lake size, depth, weather, and shading, so local readings will differ year to year.
Swimming at Cedar Lake is generally possible and commonly done during the warmer months when surface temperatures are in the comfortable summer range. Public access points and beaches, where present, provide designated areas for swimming, and the warmer summer surface temps make recreational bathing safe for most people. However, cooler spring and fall waters can present cold-shock or hypothermia risks, and ice-covered conditions in winter prohibit ordinary swimming except for organized, well-prepared ice-swimming events. Always check local advisories for water quality and access rules before entering the water.
