* Current - Actual water temperature value
** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Embalse de Canelles, located on the Noguera Ribagorzana between Aragon and Catalonia, shows the typical seasonal temperature pattern of a mid-altitude reservoir. In summer the surface water commonly warms to roughly 20–25 °C (68–77 °F), with occasional peaks up to about 26 °C (79 °F) in the warmest weeks. In late spring and early autumn surface temperatures usually sit between 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) as air temperatures moderate, while in winter the reservoir can cool to around 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) near the surface, and colder stratified layers persist at depth. These figures vary with weather, inflows, and wind-driven mixing, so local readings can differ year to year.
Swimming in the Embalse de Canelles is possible in many stretches but is subject to local regulation and practical safety considerations. Some areas are commonly used for bathing and recreation, whereas zones close to the dam, intake structures, or busy boating routes are often restricted to protect water management operations and swimmer safety. Cold water, sudden depth changes, submerged obstacles and boat traffic are the main hazards, and water quality can vary after heavy rains. Visitors should follow posted signs and municipal rules and exercise caution due to temperature-related risks like cold-water shock.
