** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Burr Oak Reservoir, located in southeastern Ohio, experiences pronounced seasonal shifts in water temperature. In winter the surface commonly falls near freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C), while spring brings a steady rise as runoff and warming air push temperatures into the mid-range of about 40–60°F (4–16°C). By summer the surface of shallow bays and near-shore zones often warms to comfortable levels, typically around 70–85°F (21–29°C) on warm days, though deeper parts of the reservoir remain cooler. Autumn sees a gradual cooling back toward 50–65°F (10–18°C) before the lake refreezes or reaches winter minima. Local factors such as depth, shading, recent rainfall and wind-driven mixing mean temperatures can vary substantially across the reservoir and from one year to the next.
Swimming at Burr Oak is allowed in designated beach areas within Burr Oak State Park and is generally permitted during the warmer months when lifeguards are on duty and water-quality tests are satisfactory. Designated areas exist to concentrate swimmers where conditions are monitored and hazards are minimized; however, seasonal advisories, algal blooms, bacterial testing results, and fluctuating water levels can temporarily restrict swimming. Visitors should follow posted park rules and current advisories for their own safety and to ensure acceptable water quality before entering the lake.
