*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Boysen Reservoir in central Wyoming experiences a wide seasonal swing in water temperature. In spring the surface water typically runs cool, roughly 40–55°F (4–13°C) as runoff and snowmelt dominate. By early summer temperatures commonly climb into the mid-50s to high-60s °F (13–20°C), and at the warmest points of July and August the surface can reach about 60–75°F (16–24°C) in sheltered areas. As autumn arrives the lake cools again, often falling to the 45–60°F range (7–16°C). In winter much of the reservoir can approach freezing, generally around 32–40°F (0–4°C) where ice forms, while deeper water remains just above freezing.
Swimming at Boysen is generally permitted because the reservoir and adjacent lands are managed for multiple recreational uses, including bathing, boating, and fishing. However, swimmers should be cautious: even in summer the water can be cool enough to cause cold-water shock and cramps, boat traffic and wind-driven waves create hazards, and there are submerged structures and sudden drop-offs in some areas. Areas immediately around the dam and some launch zones may be restricted, and lifeguards are uncommon, so personal flotation devices and conservative judgment are recommended.
