*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Albufeira da Barragem do Arade (Albufeira do Arade) is a freshwater reservoir in Faro District whose surface water temperatures reflect Algarve’s mild climate. Typical seasonal ranges are roughly 9–13 °C (48–55 °F) in winter, 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) in spring, 18–26 °C (64–79 °F) in summer and 14–20 °C (57–68 °F) in autumn. Shallow bays and sheltered inlets warm faster and can reach the upper end of these ranges in prolonged heat, while deeper or dam-adjacent areas stay cooler. Temperature stratification can occur in summer, producing noticeably colder pockets below the surface.
Swimming at the Albufeira da Barragem do Arade is commonly discouraged or subject to local restrictions rather than universally promoted. Authorities often limit bathing for reasons of public safety (strong currents, sudden releases from the dam, submerged hazards and boat traffic), water-quality protection and management of a water-supply resource. Informal bathing and small craft use do occur in calmer parts when allowed, but it is important to heed signage and local rules; checking with municipal authorities or the dam operator will give the definitive, current guidance on whether and where swimming is permitted.
