*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Albufeira da Barragem de Santa Clara (Portuguese name) is a sizeable inland reservoir in the Beja District whose water temperatures vary with the seasons and local weather. In winter the surface usually cools to roughly 9–14 °C (48–57 °F), while spring sees a gradual rise toward 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) as days lengthen. Peak summer surface temperatures commonly reach 20–28 °C (68–82 °F) in warm, calm spells, especially in shallow bays, and autumn typically brings a decline to about 13–22 °C (55–72 °F). These figures are broad averages: shallow areas warm faster than deep sections, and daily or wind-driven fluctuations, as well as occasional thermal stratification, can alter conditions locally.
Swimming in the Albufeira is commonly practiced and generally permitted as the reservoir is used for leisure and informal bathing by locals and visitors. However, permission and safe access depend on municipal rules, water quality monitoring and specific signage; at times authorities may restrict swimming for safety, water-supply protection or when algal blooms and strong currents are present. Visitors should follow posted regulations, be mindful of boat traffic and submerged hazards, and check current water-quality and access updates before entering the water.
