*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The River Medway flows directly through Maidstone, the county town of Kent, and its water temperature follows a predictable seasonal cycle typical of English rivers. During the depths of winter, around January and February, the water temperature is cold, averaging lows of approximately 7∘C (45∘F). By contrast, the summer months, particularly July and August, bring the warmest conditions, with average highs in the river reaching roughly 17∘C (63∘F), offering the most inviting, yet still cool, conditions.
Swimming directly in the river is not a generally recommended or permitted activity, due to safety concerns. The navigable stretches of the Medway feature weirs, locks, and strong, unpredictable currents that pose a significant danger of cold water shock and drowning, a risk heightened after rainfall. For recreation, a much safer option is kayaking or taking a scenic cruise on the Kentish Lady river boat. Beyond the river, the area is rich in history, with major local attractions including the magnificent Leeds Castle and the living history museum at Kent Life Heritage Farm Park.
