*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Dartford, a town in Kent on the southern bank of the River Thames, sits near the point where the river becomes wide and tidal, influenced by both fresh and saltwater. In this lower section, the Thames has a moderate but variable temperature that changes with the seasons. During winter, the water typically measures around 6–8°C (43–46°F), staying cold and fast-moving. In spring, it gradually warms to about 10–13°C (50–55°F), while in midsummer—usually July and August—the surface temperature can reach 17–19°C (63–66°F). Because of tidal mixing and river depth, the water often feels cooler than in upstream areas. By early autumn, it slowly cools back to around 12–14°C (54–57°F), maintaining a fresh character year-round.
Swimming in the Thames at Dartford is technically possible but not recommended for casual swimmers. The river here experiences strong tides, boat traffic, and variable water quality, which make it suitable only for well-prepared and experienced open-water swimmers. Local residents and visitors tend to enjoy the water from the shore through riverside walks, kayaking, or cycling paths that trace the estuary. Beyond the river, Dartford offers nearby attractions such as Central Park, the scenic Darent Valley, and easy access to the sweeping landscapes of the Kent countryside.
