*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Exmouth, a seaside town in Devon, lies at the mouth of the River Exe, where the river flows into the English Channel. The water temperature here reflects both the tidal nature of the estuary and the mild maritime climate of southwest England. In winter, the River Exe near Exmouth typically stays between 6 and 8°C (43–46°F), remaining cool but rarely icy. By spring, it warms to around 10–13°C (50–55°F). During midsummer—particularly in July and August—the water often reaches 17–19°C (63–66°F), with the estuary’s shallow sections heating slightly faster on sunny days. As autumn approaches, the temperature gradually drops again to about 11–13°C (52–55°F), keeping a moderate and refreshing quality through most of the year.
Swimming in the River Exe around Exmouth is both possible and popular, especially along the sheltered estuary beaches and at the river mouth where it meets the sea. The water is generally clean, and tides help renew it regularly, though swimmers must be cautious of changing currents. The wide sands of Exmouth Beach provide ideal spots for both sea and estuary swimming during summer. Beyond the water, the area offers rich outdoor experiences, including the Exe Estuary Trail, birdwatching reserves, and stunning coastal walks along the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.
