*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Saltash, often called the Gateway to Cornwall, is situated on the west bank of the tidal River Tamar, meaning the water temperature is strongly influenced by the English Channel. Seasonally, the river here typically ranges from a chilly 8∘C to 10∘C (46∘F to 50∘F) in winter, warming up to around 15∘C to 17∘C (59∘F to 63∘F) during the summer months. Given its estuarine location, the water quality is classified as variable by environmental agencies.
Swimming in the main river channel is not generally recommended due to significant hazards. The tidal nature of the estuary generates powerful currents, and the presence of the two massive Tamar Bridges makes the area busy with commercial and recreational boat traffic. However, there are some sheltered spots where swimming is possible at slack high tide, such as at Wearde Quay, but it should only be attempted by experienced swimmers who are aware of the tide times and safety risks. For those who prefer to stay dry, Saltash is famous for the stunning Royal Albert Bridge, a masterpiece by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and is home to the historic Mary Newman's Cottage, the supposed dwelling of Sir Francis Drake's first wife.
