Location & Local Information
Turka lies in the Carpathian region on the left bank of the Stryi River, at an elevation of over 550 meters. Because of the mountainous terrain and forested watershed, the river in this area tends to have cooler water even in summer, compared to lowland rivers. During hot summer months, water in mountain rivers like Stryi around Turka might warm up to somewhere in the ballpark of 16-20 °C (sometimes a bit more in shallow, sun-exposed stretches), but often remains cooler, especially in shaded parts or where flow is strong.
As for swimming, there are spots along the Stryi near Turka where locals do bathe, especially when the weather is warm and the river level is moderate. However, there are trade-offs: the current can be strong; shallow rocky bottoms make footing uneven; and water clarity or sediment may vary after rains. So while a refreshing dip is quite possible in summer, long stays in water or swimming against the current may be uncomfortable or risky. For many people, the river is more suitable for cooling off rather than swimming laps.
