Romny lies on the Sula River in the central part of Sumy Oblast. During the summer months, especially in July and August, the water in this section of the Sula usually warms up to around 20-24°C, depending on air temperature and sunshine. In deeper or faster-flowing parts of the river, the temperature tends to stay cooler — about 17-19°C. The water warms up quickly after a few sunny days, but can cool noticeably after rain or cold nights.
