The Lopan River within the city of Kharkiv is a typical lowland river that flows through a large industrial center. Although the river is relatively shallow and the air warms up significantly in the summer, which favors an increase in water temperature, there are nuances. During the peak summer months, July and August, the water in the Lopan can warm up to 22−25∘C in areas with a slow current. This temperature is quite acceptable for swimming, and for a healthy adult, 20−22∘C is already considered the minimum permissible for a short dip.
Swimming opportunities directly in the Lopan River within central Kharkiv are limited, primarily due to environmental factors related to urban development and water quality.
