Location & Local Information
The city of Bar, located in Vinnytsia Oblast, lies on the banks of the small river Riv, a tributary of the Southern Bug. The Riv is a modest river that flows slowly through a picturesque valley surrounded by greenery, creating a calm and rural atmosphere. In the area around Bar, the river is quite narrow and shallow, which affects both its temperature and swimming suitability. During the warm months, especially from late May to early September, the water in the Riv usually warms up quickly, often reaching 20–24°C in midsummer.
Although the Riv is not a large river, local residents often use its calm stretches for short swims and cooling off in hot weather. The water is generally clean, especially upstream of the city, but the depth is limited, making it more suitable for wading or relaxing near the shore than for real swimming. In spring, the water can be noticeably colder due to snowmelt, while by late summer it becomes pleasantly warm and inviting for brief bathing.
