Alpaslan-2 Barajı in Muş forms a deep reservoir whose water temperatures reflect the continental climate of eastern Anatolia and the dam's elevation and inflows. In winter the surface often approaches freezing, roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), while spring sees a gradual rise to about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as snowmelt and river inflows warm. Peak summer temperatures at the surface can reach approximately 18–25 °C (64–77 °F) on warm days, though strong winds and depth-related cooling keep much of the reservoir colder. In autumn the surface typically cools again into the 10–16 °C range (50–61 °F). These are approximate seasonal ranges; actual measurements vary with weather, inflow volume and reservoir stratification.
Swimming opportunities at Alpaslan-2 are limited and should be approached cautiously. Many dam reservoirs are subject to operational hazards such as sudden water level changes, submerged structures, strong currents near intakes and outlets, and cold deep water that increases hypothermia risk.
