The city of Novo mesto lies along the Krka River in southeastern Slovenia, where the river flows gently through urban areas and surrounding greenery. In this lowland section, the water warms up significantly during the summer months. From June to August, surface temperatures in calmer and shallower sections near Novo mesto usually reach 22–26°C, making swimming and wading very comfortable. In spring and autumn, the water is cooler, typically around 14–18°C, while in winter it drops to 4–6°C.
Swimming in the Krka within Novo mesto is mainly possible in slow-moving pools and shallow sections along the riverbanks. These areas are favored by locals for a refreshing dip on hot summer days.
