*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Ponte de Lima, in the Viana do Castelo district, sits on the Lima River and is known for its river beaches and small inland lake/lagoon areas used for recreation. Water temperatures vary by season and by depth: in summer the lake and sheltered river shallows typically warm to about 18–24 °C (64–75 °F), with shallow, sun-exposed spots sometimes reaching around 25 °C (77 °F) on hot days. In spring and autumn typical ranges are roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F), while winter temperatures commonly fall to about 8–12 °C (46–54 °F). These figures are approximate and can shift with recent weather, river flow and local microclimates.
Swimming is generally allowed at the designated bathing areas around Ponte de Lima; several river beaches are officially classified for bathing and are monitored for water quality during the summer season. Lifeguards and facilities are usually present in peak months, which makes swimming safer then. Outside the monitored season swimming is possible but less recommended because of lower temperatures, lack of supervision, stronger currents after rain and occasional water-quality variations. Visitors should follow local signage and seasonal guidelines to ensure safe and permitted use of the lake and river for swimming.
