*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Tavira (in Portuguese - Tavira), in the Faro District on Portugal’s Algarve coast, sits beside the Ria Formosa lagoon and the Atlantic shoreline of Ilha de Tavira. Water temperatures in the lagoon and nearby sheltered channels tend to be slightly warmer than open sea because of shallower depths. Typical seasonal surface temperatures range from about 14–16 °C (57–61 °F) in winter, rising to roughly 16–19 °C (61–66 °F) in spring. In summer the lagoon and adjacent beach waters commonly reach 20–24 °C (68–75 °F), and in calm, shallow pockets can climb to 25–26 °C (77–79 °F) at the height of August. Autumn temperatures usually sit between 18–22 °C (64–72 °F) as the sea slowly cools.
Swimming is allowed in the Ria Formosa and at Ilha de Tavira beaches, and these areas are popular for bathing because they are publicly accessible, monitored during peak season, and generally offer good water quality. Lifeguards are present on designated beaches in summer and water quality is regularly checked, which is why bathing is permitted. Visitors should still heed local flags and notices: currents near inlets, occasional jellyfish, or short-term contamination after heavy rain can lead to temporary restrictions. The sheltered lagoon conditions make the area particularly suitable for families and less confident swimmers.
