** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Silves, in the Faro District of southern Portugal, sits on the Arade River and near a number of small reservoirs and riverine “lakes” used for irrigation and local recreation. Water temperatures in these inland bodies vary with the seasons: in winter they typically sit around 12–16 °C (54–61 °F), in spring 14–20 °C (57–68 °F), in summer commonly 20–25 °C (68–77 °F), and in autumn about 15–21 °C (59–70 °F). These figures are approximate and depend on recent weather, rainfall and whether the water body is shallow or deep; shallower areas warm and cool more quickly than deeper reservoirs, while flowing sections of the Arade may stay cooler.
Swimming is possible in parts of the river and in some designated reservoir areas, but it is not universally permitted everywhere. Restrictions exist for safety reasons (currents, submerged hazards and boat traffic), for water quality concerns and where reservoirs supply drinking water, and locals and municipal signage or regulations determine allowed spots. In short, recreational bathing is common in suitable marked locations around Silves during the warmer months, but visitors should check local notices, respect posted rules and be mindful of variable conditions.
