*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Portimão, on Portugal’s Algarve coast in Faro District, lies beside the Arade River estuary and several sheltered lagoon-like spots rather than a large inland lake. Water temperatures in these calm, shallow waters vary by season and are generally a bit warmer than open Atlantic conditions because of limited exchange and shallowness. Typical seasonal ranges for estuaries and lagoons around Portimão are roughly winter 12–15 °C (54–59 °F), spring 15–20 °C (59–68 °F), summer 20–26 °C (68–79 °F) and autumn 18–22 °C (64–72 °F). Open-sea temperatures off the coast tend to be a few degrees cooler in each season.
Swimming is commonly allowed and popular at beaches, riverbanks and in sheltered estuary spots, especially in summer when lifeguards are on duty and water quality is regularly monitored. Access to some lagoon or river areas may be restricted or discouraged at times due to pollution after heavy rains, strong tidal flows in the estuary mouth, submerged hazards or occasional algal issues, so local signage and official water-quality advisories should be checked before entering. Overall, seasonal warmth makes swimming feasible from late spring through early autumn, with comfort and safety depending on conditions and local management.
