** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Aosta, the principal town of the Aosta Valley in Italy, is surrounded by alpine lakes and reservoirs whose water temperatures vary strongly with elevation and season. Low-lying natural lakes and small impoundments in the valley can warm to roughly 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) during the warmest weeks of July and August, while higher-elevation tarns and glacier-fed basins often remain much cooler, typically 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in summer. In spring and autumn surface temperatures commonly sit between about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as snowmelt and cool nights dominate, and in winter many smaller lakes drop to 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) or freeze over.
Swimming in the lakes around Aosta is possible but conditional. Bathing is generally allowed in many public lakes during the warm season when surface temperatures reach the more comfortable ranges listed above, yet most alpine lakes lack lifeguard services and can pose hypothermia risk because cold water temperatures and sudden depth changes reduce endurance. Additionally, some reservoirs and protected catchment or nature areas restrict or prohibit swimming to protect drinking-water supplies or fragile habitats. Local signage and municipal rules determine where swimming is permitted, and caution is advised given variable weather and water conditions.
