** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Copenhagen (København) in the Capital Region of Denmark has a number of freshwater bodies—small lakes, canals and stretches of river—whose temperatures vary with the seasons. In spring the water is typically cool, roughly 6–15 °C (43–59 °F) as warming begins; in summer shallow lakes and slow-moving stretches can reach about 18–22 °C (64–72 °F) and occasionally up to 24 °C (75 °F) during heatwaves. Autumn brings cooling to roughly 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) before winter values commonly fall toward 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), with ice forming on the coldest winters in sheltered spots. These freshwater bodies often respond differently to weather than the open sea, warming more in calm, sunny conditions and cooling rapidly in overcast or windy periods.
Swimming in Copenhagen’s lakes and rivers is widely practised informally and is allowed in most public areas, but whether it is advisable depends on local water quality and safety. Municipal authorities monitor designated bathing sites and will close or advise against swimming when bacterial counts, cyanobacterial blooms or hazardous conditions are present. Currents in rivers around the city are generally weak, so the main risks are poor visibility, sudden depth changes and cold-water shock in colder months. Winter ice- and cold-water swimming occurs as an activity, but it requires precautions and local guidance to be safe.
