Horní Planá is a picturesque town located on the northern shore of the Lipno Reservoir (Vodní nádrž Lipno) in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. The reservoir near Horní Planá is known for its calm waters and scenic surroundings, making it an ideal location for swimming and summer recreation. During the peak summer months of July and August, water temperatures in this area typically reach around 22–25 °C, providing comfortable conditions for swimming, wading, and light water sports. The gently sloping shoreline allows easy access to the water, which is especially convenient for families and casual swimmers.
Swimming in Horní Planá is mostly informal, with natural beaches and some designated swimming areas rather than fully developed commercial facilities. Visitors often combine a swim with sunbathing, picnics, or kayaking and sailing on the calm waters of the reservoir. The tranquil environment and the surrounding forests and hills add to the appeal, offering a relaxing atmosphere away from more crowded tourist spots.
Outside the peak summer months, water temperatures drop noticeably. In May or September, the reservoir generally remains around 15–18 °C, which is cooler for long swims but still allows brief dips or wading near the shore.
