*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Oshawa, like other municipalities on the Great Lakes, sits on the shore of Lake Ontario, a large, deep body of water whose temperature is slow to change. In the deep winter months, the lake water remains near freezing, typically ranging from 1∘C to 4∘C (34∘F to 39∘F). Even in the peak summer season, Lake Ontario's immense volume prevents it from becoming truly warm; surface temperatures in the swimming areas generally peak in the range of 18∘C to 24∘C (64∘F to 75∘F), with late August often being the warmest period.
Swimming is permitted and actively encouraged at Oshawa’s main waterfront access point, Lakeview Park Beach. The City of Oshawa maintains two sections here, with Lakeview Park Beach East being supervised by lifeguards daily during the summer season, confirming its status as a designated safe swimming area. However, the Durham Region Health Department monitors the water for E. coli bacteria, and high levels, which often occur after heavy rainfall, can lead to No Swimming advisories. Swimmers must also be cautious of the risk of cold upwellings—where cold bottom water rises unexpectedly—which can cause the surface temperature to drop rapidly, even on the hottest days.
