*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Newmarket, Ontario, is an inland municipality with its primary water feature being Fairy Lake, a small urban reservoir/wetland fed by Black Creek. Due to its shallow depth (average 1 meter) and urban setting, its water temperature is generally suitable for swimming during the summer but is prone to quality issues. In the peak summer months, surface temperatures can warm up to a comfortable range, typically between 20∘C and 24∘C (68∘F to 75∘F). In the winter, the water is near freezing, generally ranging from 0∘C to 5∘C (32∘F to 41∘F), with the lake freezing over completely.
Swimming in Fairy Lake is generally discouraged by the Town of Newmarket, though it is sometimes listed as a permitted activity. The lake's shallow, wetland nature, coupled with runoff and goose waste, results in high bacteria and nutrient levels and a frequent risk of Blue-Green Algae (Cyanobacteria) blooms. The high presence of aquatic vegetation further confirms its poor suitability for public swimming. For safe, controlled swimming, the town provides excellent municipal facilities, including the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex Pool and the seasonal Peter Gorman Outdoor Pool. Therefore, any swimming in Fairy Lake is strictly at one's own risk, with strong warnings advised.
